Ollerton drew their opening first home game of the season against Worsbrough Bridge

In their first home game of the season, Ollerton Town entertained Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, with both sides looking to bounce back from opening day defeats.

Whilst Town were still without captain Sam Stretton, the visitors were able to include all three of their midweek signings in the match-day squad.

Ollerton were quickly out of the blocks and created an early chance when Ben Partridge fired over from 20 yards in the first minute.

The visitors responded 5 minutes later, when a cross was flicked goal-wards by Sam Race. Ollerton ‘keeper Levi Owen saved at his near post, with Reece Conroy completing the clearance.

With 14 minutes on the clock, Sean Dickinson intercepted the ball and his pass put Aaron Sennett-Neilson in on goal. His effort beat Harry Scott in the visitors goal but new signing Robbie Miller cleared off the line. Sennett-Neilson was first to respond, but saw his effort rebound off the crossbar.

As the half wore on, Ollerton continued to press and in the 32nd minute they took the lead. Partridge raced clear and took the ball around the advancing ‘keeper, before finishing well from a tight angle.

The goal was no more than Ollerton deserved and the lead could have increased with Partridge shooting just over in the 35th minute and then seeing another effort saved by Scott a minute later.

Then, against the run of play, Worsbrough equalised in the 37th minute, when another of the new signings, Sam Corner finished well from the edge of the box.

Corner could have added to his tally just before half time, but Owen was out quickly to save, sending the teams into the break level at 1-1.

Worsbrough changed formation at the star of the second half, and made a much better start. Owen saved at the feet of Ash Emmett before Connor Rollinson fired just over from 25 yards.

Then, in the 58th minute, Ollerton had a golden chance to regain the lead. A long clearance from Owen sent Partridge racing into the area, only for the striker to be upended by Miller. The referee immediately awarded a penalty, but Lewis Bingham fired over from the spot to leave the score at 1-1.

Worsbrough then had their own chance to steal the points. Conroy was booked for a foul on Emmett and from the resulting free kick, the ball found Corner in the six yard box. His header was well saved by Owen, with the ‘keeper reacting quickly to smother the lose ball under pressure from Emmett.

With the points there for the taking, and time running out, Worsbrough pressed for a winner. Corner raced clear but his effort hit the post as Fletcher challenged him, with the ball going out for a goal kick.

Then, with the game deep in injury time, a shot from Emmett on the edge of the box deflected off Lewis Murr leaving Owen stranded. Luckily for Town, the ball clipped the top of the bar and went out for a corner.

That proved to be the last action of the game, with honours even and both sides picking up their first point of the season.
