A Word from Winter: #14

A Word from Winter: #14

Dave Winter provides his latest thoughts ahead of our home game v Askern FC (27/2/2015)

Hello and welcome to Walesby Lane for this afternoons Central Midlands North League fixture. I’d like to extend that welcome to all players, officials and supporters of Askern and of course to our own dedicated supporters.

Last time we played Askern it was in the League at the end of October. We were on a fantastic run and went into the game into confident mood but were dealt a tough lesson and came away having being hammered 5-1. Truth be told we didn’t play well but Askern were more clinical than us and took the chances they created. They are also in a rich vein of form having beat Harworth and Newark in their last two games. Our lads will certainly go into the game in confident mood after our two most recent games in which we managed to score 24 goals without conceding and give our confident and goal difference a huge boost. It's hard to say how well we played over those two games but what I will say is we were very professional throughout both games and richly deserved the two victories. This afternoon’s game is the start of a massive month for us, with games coming up against Glapwell and of course the League Cup Semi Final against Blidworth.

The last two games have given me the opportunity to use our whole squad, with young Cameron Mitchell and the very young Curtis Burton both being involved against Welbeck. As always we have been looking to strengthen the squad for the final push and are pleased to say that Sam Dockwray has agreed to join us and scored two goals in his first two appearances. With several players due back soon such as Craig Stanton, Chris Hewitt and Jamie Tryner, I honestly believe that we have the strongest squad in the league and I feel its time for us to push on and go a run until the end of the season. One thing is for sure though we will need our entire squad between now and the end of the season and yes some players will be disappointed at times but they will all play a part in our run in.

I hope you all enjoy the game this afternoon.

Yours in football,
Dave Winter
