Ollerton Town continue to look over their shoulder as a 3-2 loss away to East Yorkshire Carnegie kept them in touching distance of the league's bottom sides.
Ollerton’s typical strong start to games was apparent within the first 10 minutes as Gav King’s curling effort to the back post was almost converted by Liam Cooper but it was just out of reach of the surging centre half.
Ollerton continued to look the better team in possession but there seemed to be more style than there was substance as East Yorkshire Carnegie looked to be the team who were more able to carve out genuine chances. Lewis Sarel’s low right footed effort was well saved by Jack Dickens and Busilana Kashilembo will have been disappointed that his lobbed effort when put through ne-on-one didn’t trouble Dickens.
East Yorkshire Carnegie were eventually able to make their spell of dominance count as an in-swinging free kick from Danny Walker was easily converted by Jordan Harrison in what was quite a soft goal for Ollerton to concede in.
Shortly after East Yorkshire Carnegie were able to double their advantage as Walker slipped the ball in behind the Ollerton defence to Harrison who fired the ball past Dickens.
East Yorkshire Carnegie looked to be on the brink of running away with the game and the next goal looked to be crucial but fortunately it went the way of Ollerton. Lewis Bingham’s in-swinging corner was flicked past Lewis Hill by Gav King with Ollerton's top scorer giving his side a route back into the game.
In the reverse fixture, Ollerton found themselves 2-0 ahead with only a few minutes to go before East Yorkshire Carnegie hit back to steal a point. This time around it was Ollerton who fought back and only five minutes after getting the first goal they were on level terms. King whipped a ball in from the right hand side and it was expertly clipped in by Lewis Bingham as both players were able to end of the half with a goal and an assist to their name as Ollerton were able to rescue a draw from a very competitive first half.
Ollerton looked to be starting off the second half in quite a positive manor but unfortunately they fell behind again. After losing possession on the edge of the box, Harrison who was able to knock the ball around Liam Cooper before rounding Dickens and converting into the open net.
Ollerton really looked to push on after going behind but struggled to break the resolve of East Yorkshire Carnegie. Ollerton’s best chance of the half came in this ensuing spell of pressure as Ash Shannon cut the ball back to Sean Dickinson who found himself through on goal but couldn’t quite get his shot off soon enough to trouble the keeper.
Ollerton continued to look more vulnerable on the counter and Kashilombo arguably should’ve finished the game off as a through ball in behind left him one-on-one with Dickens but his tame effort whistled just wide off the post.
Ollerton made tactical changes late on and threw more bodies forward for the final fifteen minutes but East Yorkshire Carnegie were able to manage the game well and see out a well earned 3-2 victory.
It will have been a hard defeat to take for Ollerton but with a crucial double header against Swallownest to come over the festive period, they must dust themselves off and go again in order to be in a position of relative comfort going into the New Year.
