Ollerton got back to winning ways on Saturday beating Worsbrough Bridge 4-2

Report by William Lavelle.

Ollerton Town defeated Worsbrough Bridge 4-2 on Saturday to do the double over the Barnsley outfit and return to winning ways. Dave Winter's side took the lead late into the first half before being pegged back by the hosts. An unbelievable three minute spell late on then saw Ollerton go 3-2 ahead before they rounded off the scoring in the final few minutes.
The Town almost took an early lead as Gav King was played through by Ash Shannon and King managed to stay composed as he glided past a defender but couldn’t find the finish on his weaker left side.
Ollerton were looking the classier team on the ball but Worsbrough almost took the lead against the run of play as Ben Severn found himself in a large amount of space out on the left side but his shot to the far post was well parried by Ryan Brooks.
Ollerton also looked to be slightly vulnerable from corners as Ashden Morley was able to win the first header from a corner on two separate occasions but both headers were just off target.
Shannon and King linked up again as the winger curled in a perfect cross for the front man who controlled the ball very well but couldn’t quite place it the right side of the post.
Worsbrough's player-manager Lee Morris was a constant threat and caused problems for Ollerton’s three man defence. An excellent tackle from Tom Moody was all that stopped Morris from having a clear goal scoring opportunity and Morris then found himself on the end of James Kay curling cross to the back post but Brooks was able to deny his low effort.
Worsbrough really looked to be gaining a foothold in this game but a late spell of Ollerton pressure pushed the hosts back near the end of the half and it resulted in the opening goal. A low through ball from Lewis Bingham found King who beat the offside trap and took his time to side foot the ball past Josh Diggles.
Ollerton gained confidence from the late goal and probably should’ve killed the game off after an early onslaught in the second half. The home side had 'keeper Diggles to thank for keeping them in the game as his heroics denied King on more than one occasion, with the stopper having one of the games of his life.
Even though the game should’ve been out of sight, Worsbrough were still able to find an equaliser against the run of play through Joe Dungworth. A ball from the right wing across goal found Ben Grech and his effort was tipped on to the bar by Brooks but the rebound fell to Dungworth who slotted home into a relatively unguarded goal.
In spite of the Worsbrough equaliser, Ollerton still looked the better of the two sides and the team creating most of the chances. Another headed effort from King was saved in quite an incredible manor by Diggles and a long ball from Mark Bullock found Sean Dickinson who slid the ball back to King but his battle against Diggles was once again unsuccessful as the Worsbrough keeper seemed determined to frustrate Ollerton's top scorer.
Ollerton’s relentless pressure eventually paid off with 10 minutes to go. Bowkett’s cross was deflected back to edge of the box where Shannon fired the ball into the roof of the net to give Ollerton a deserved lead.
Directly after going a ball behind, Worsbrough replied to once again pull level. A brilliant ball to the back post from Jackson Hassanyeh found Dungworth who struck home past Brooks with a first time finish, in spite of the calls for offside by the Ollerton support. Whether or not the goal was offside, Ollerton will have been disappointed to concede such a soft equaliser after what had been quite a dominant display.
Ollerton continued to push forward and straight from the restart, they took the lead for a third time. Shannon’s ball across goal wasn’t cleared effectively and it fell to Josh Bowkett who was able to claim a well deserved goal to complete a crazy 3 minute spell.
Ollerton finally finished off what was a deserved win in the 88th minute as a brilliant ball down the right wing from Bowkett found Dickinson who maintained his composure to cut inside on to his left foot to easily slot past Diggles.
It was a deserved win for the Town who would have won by a more emphatic margin had it not been for the heroics of Diggles and some wasteful finishing. With a local derby against Retford United to come on Wednesday before a tricky home tie against Campion, Ollerton will be looking to turn this win into a good run of form.
