Ollerton defeated Shirebrook 2-1 for the second time this season

Ollerton Town took a big step towards securing their survival in the Northern Counties East League by defeating Shirebrook Town 2-1 on Saturday, doing the double over their local rivals in the process.
In fact Saturday's game was almost a carbon copy of the fixture back in October which also ended 2-1. Shirebrook took an early lead only for Ollerton to dominate proceedings and in the end a Kyle Ludlow goal was enough to win it for Dave Winter's side.
The first meeting between these two sides was Karl Colley's first game in charge of Shirebrook and since then he has slowly but surely guided his side to a comfortable position in the league table. Ollerton however remained looking over their shoulder at the chasing pack and after two successive defeats, they needed a win to ease their relegation worries.
They nearly got a perfect start to the game. Tom Cooke marauded down the right wing and his pin-point cross found Greg Tobin but he could only direct his header onto the roof the net.
Ollerton continued to apply pressure and on fifteen minutes, Sam Dockwray's header was brilliantly saved by Warren Squires in the Shirebrook goal. From this, Shirebrook broke away and took the lead against the run of play. Mark Robinson found space on the edge of the area and he curled a terrific effort past Scott Gretton and into the far corner.
That was about as good as it got for Shirebrook as Ollerton resumed their control of the game yet despite how comfortable they looked, Ollerton were struggling to really test Squires. On twenty minutes, Josh Bowkett curled an effort towards goal but it proved to be a routine save for the Shirebrook 'stopper.
It was Bowkett who was to go close for Ollerton just before the interval. Lewis Bingham did brilliantly down the right wing and his pull back found Josh Bowkett but Ollerton's top goalscorer could only direct the ball against the woodwork with Squires beaten.
After the restart Ollerton continued to have the better of the play and Tom Cooke's dipping volley from a tight angle flew just over the bar before Kyle Ludlow dragged a first time effort wide of the post.
It always looked like a matter of when and not if Ollerton would score, and the equaliser arrived just after the hour mark. Tom Cooke was one of Ollerton's star performers on the day and he worked his way into the area from right back before firing a rocket of a shot into the top corner.
Mark Carter then saw a shot from range acrobatically tipped over the bar by Squires before a Cooke long throw into the Shirebrook caused havoc with Lewis Bingham and Kyle Ludlow both seeing shots cleared off the line.
With thirteen minutes to go, Ollerton's pressure finally paid off as they took the lead. Sam Dockwray poked a ball to Kyle Ludlow and from ten yards out he found the bottom corner to score his eleventh of the campaign.
There was to be no late fight back from Shirebrook as Ollerton secured a deserved win which put more daylight between them and the bottom two, as Dave Winter's side moved up to seventeenth in the table.
