Two goals each for Lewis Bingham and Kyle Ludlow helped Ollerton to a 4-1 win

Ollerton Town Manager Dave Winter watched his side put in one of their best displays of the season on Saturday and then called for repeat performances ahead of an important run of games for the club.
Ollerton were 4-1 victors against Rossington Main on Saturday, going in to half time 3-0 up. That win saw them go seven points clear of the relegation zone, no mean feat given that they were without a point after their first seven games.
The Town now welcome Westella & Willerby and Nostell MW to The Lane over the next fortnight with both clubs currently in the Northern Counties East Division One relegation zone. Both will be tough fixtures but there was enough evidence on show during Saturday’s win to suggest that if Ollerton perform, they have enough to pull even further away from the drop.
They got off to the perfect start on Saturday, taking the lead inside the opening three minutes. Lewis Bingham played Kyle Ludlow in on goal and he showed why he was Ollerton’s top goalscorer last season, finishing well off the inside of the upright.
Ollerton went close again on fifteen minutes. Tom Cooke saw a shot deflected out by ‘keeper Simon Dye and Ludlow was on hand to meet the rebound, but he could only head wide.
With twenty minutes gone, Ollerton grabbed two quick fire goals to put themselves in a comfortable position. A long ranged freekick from Bingham found Ludlow inside the area and his diving header put Ollerton 2-0 up.
After having Bingham to thank for his two goals, Kyle Ludlow then decided to turn provider for Ollerton’s third. His flick on released Bingham and the Ollerton striker, who turned down a transfer approach from Rossington earlier this season, calmly rounded Dye and slotted home.
Ollerton could have had four before the break. Sam Dockwray put Kyle Ludlow through on goal but he failed to get a first half hat-trick, seeing a good effort saved by Dye.
It had been a splendid first half for Ollerton who not only put Rossington to the sword with their attacking football, but who had also worked tiredlessly closing their hosts down whenever they were in possession. After the game, Ollerton Manager Dave Winter was full of praise for his side: “We started really well and I feel we showed in the first half what we are capable of. We took our foot off the gas a bit in the second half but the way we pressed in the first half, there was always a good chance that could happen.”
Though Ollerton’s performance levels did drop somewhat, they never really let complacency set in and were on the hunt for a fourth goal to kill off their opponents. As it turned out, it was Rossington who scored next. A well delivered cross from the right unfortunately struck the shoulder of Ollerton defender Alex Sennett, and looped up past Scott Gretton.
Rossington were trying hard to reduce the deficit even further but Ollerton were remaining solid and with ten minutes to go, they scored a fourth. Josh Bowkett’s effort was parried out into the middle by Dye and despite being at a difficult height, Bingham was on hand to convert for his fourth goal in his last three games.
That proved to be the end of the scoring as Ollerton defeated Rossington by the same scoreline that Rossington won by in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Rossington’s Manager, Lee Holmes, would resign from his post shortly after the game whilst Winter, his Ollerton counterpart, was in a much better mood, adding: “I think we deserved the result and hopefully it puts in good shape ahead of a massive game on Saturday versus Westella”
