Ollerton stunned Selby with a 4-0 win on Saturday!

Ollerton Town marked Dave Winter's fifth anniversary as manager in style, as they upset the odds to defeat Selby Town 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Back in 2011, Dave Winter and his Assistant Stephen Bodle, took charge of Ollerton for the first time in a 2-0 defeat to Yorkshire Main. Five years later, the pair were to enjoy better fortune as their side beat high-flying Selby thanks to a brace by Josh Bowkett and goals from Mark Carter and Brandon Shaw.
Selby came into the game on the back of an eight game unbeaten run in the league, and an impressive cup victory over Albion Sports last week. Any ideas of them easily dispatching Ollerton were soon put to bed however when Ollerton took the lead inside the first few minutes.
After only three minutes, Josh Bowkett, Ollerton's top goalscorer so far this season, found room on the edge of the area before curling a brilliant effort past the dive of Selby's Peter Lawrie.
It was a perfect start for Dave Winter's men, and they continued to put Selby under pressure, Kyle Ludlow firing a freekick over the bar before Greg Tobin spurned a good opportunity after a quick counter-attack saw him go through one-on-one.
Ollerton had much the better of the opening thirty minutes, but as the half went on, Selby started to grow into the game and were perhaps unfortunate not to be level going into the break.
Tom Hogg headed over from a corner before Wayne Brook saw a chipped effort land on the roof of the net. Scott Jones saw a header saved for Selby before later, he missed a golden opportunity to draw his side level, directing a free header against the post before seeing the rebound saved by Gretton.
In the dying embers of the first half, Selby were awarded a penalty and a big chance to go into half time level. Scott Ward stepped up from twelve yards, but after taking his time placing the ball, he saw his powerful effort tipped onto the bar by the legs of Gretton before a mixture of Gretton and Ben Bowring kept the rebound out.
It was a terrific save by Gretton and it proved to be a turning point in the game. After such a busy end to the first half, Gretton would have been expecting a busy second period but in truth, he was as much a spectator as the 124 who were in attendance to see Ollerton go on to score three more goals in the second period.
Josh Bowkett and Lewis Bingham both saw efforts miss the target as Ollerton started to find their range, and they would seal the win with a quick fire double just after the hour mark.
The first came on sixty-three minutes from a free-kick just outside the area. Lewis Bingham's beautifully weighted ball found Mark Carter in the middle and he rose highest to thump a header across goal and into the bottom corner.
If that goal didn't deflate Selby, then they were certainly left disheartened three minutes later when Ollerton made it 3-0. A corner from the right ended up at the feet of Tom Cooke on the left hand side of the area, and his whipped ball across the face of goal landed at the feet of fellow full-back Brandon Shaw, who tapped in from close range for his third goal of the season.
Ollerton were enjoying their dominant display and kept searching for more goals to make the scoreline more emphatic. They got their fourth with fifteen minutes to go. A corner kick dropped to Josh Bowkett just inside the area and he lashed home his second of the afternoon, with the ball taking a nick off a Selby defender's hand before flying past the stranded Lawrie.
As he does on a weekly basis, Lewis Bingham was causing the opposition defenders countless problems and with only a few minutes left on the clock, he was brought down in the area with referee having no choice to point to the spot. Presented with a chance to get his hat-trick, and a fifth to mark Winter and Bodle's fifth anniversary, Josh Bowkett stepped up but for the second week in a row, Ollerton were unsuccessful from the spot with Lawrie doing well to save Bowkett's effort.
That was to be the end of the attacking action in what was a fantastic advert for football in the Northern Counties East League. From one to eleven, Ollerton were terrific all afternoon and thoroughly deserved all three points. The win sees them move a little further away from the drop zone but the nature of the result will give the side confidence that they can more than hold their own at step six as they face an important run-in before Christmas.
