Ollerton's poor run continues

Ollerton Town remain without a point in the NCEL Division One after a 4-1 defeat at home to Rossington Main on Wednesday night. Dave Winter’s team were right in the game up until the 75th minute but once Rossington retook the lead, Ollerton seemed to deflate and the visitors managed to add two late goals to make the score-line more emphatic.

Rossington had taken an early lead through Jordan Hatton before Josh Bowkett man-aged to draw Ollerton level. Hatton’s goal came just before the half hour mark, Brandon Shaw unfortunately slipped when closing down an attacker which gave him time to cross the ball in and Hatton’s looping header had Saxby beaten.

Ten minutes later, and Ollerton were level. Lewis Bingham did brilliantly down the left wing and he got to the by-line before pulling the ball back for Josh Bowkett who slotted home past Simon Dye in the Rossington goal.

That was to be it in terms of goals until the 75th minute though Ollerton did lose both Rob Evans and Kyle Ludlow to injury, with Ludlow being replaced by centre half Jon Sainthouse due to the lack of attacking options available to manager Dave Winter.

Rossington went ahead for the second time through Chris Savage, who won the ball back high up the pitch and finished from the right of the area.

Seven minutes later, and Rossington sealed the three points. A well delivered corner caused chaos in the Ollerton area and from the resulting scramble, Bradley Billam finished off the underside of the bar.

The game’s final goal came with five minutes left on the clock. Jason Stokes’ effort took a wicked deflection off the shin of Jordan Schofield which wrong-footed Saxby and meant the ball nestled into the far corner.

It’s important that Ollerton don’t get too disheartened from their poor start as the games come thick and fast in this league and a drop in confidence could lead to results spiralling further. In a strange way, Saturday’s FA Vase derby against Retford United could act as a welcome distraction for The Town who will go into the game as massive underdogs whilst knowing that a shock upset could be what’s needed to finally kick start their season.
