Ollerton defeat Thorne Colliery 3-0 on Saturday, their 7th win in a row!

Ollerton Town consolidated second place in the Central Midlands North Division after a 3-0 victory over Thorne Colliery on Saturday.
As well as this, the win means Ollerton are guaranteed to finish above promotion rivals, Harworth Colliery, and everyone at the club now has everything crossed as they wait to see whether their Walesby Lane ground has passed the required grading.
Despite the fixture carrying so much importance, the game itself had a strange feel about it as Ollerton failed to hit first gear and at times found it hard to break down a resolute Thorne side who could only field ten players and, as a result, set up with two banks of five to try and frustrate the Town.
Danny Wiltshire got the only goal of the first half to give Ollerton the lead before Chris Hewitt and Ben Bowring struck in quick succession during the second period to extend Ollerton’s lead. Hewitt later saw a penalty saved but in truth, Thorne never carried any threat and it was always a matter of how many Ollerton would score, despite their under-par performance.
Kyle Clarkson had Ollerton’s first real chance after ten minutes. Lewis Bingham delivered a corner and Ollerton’s top goal scorer headed just over the bar.
Five minutes later however, Ollerton opened the scoring. After a good move by Ollerton, Tom Cooke and Kyle Ludlow both saw shots blocked and from the resulting scramble, Danny Wiltshire headed in from close range.
After the break, Ollerton started to create more and just before the hour mark, Kyle Ludlow had a great opportunity to double his sides lead. Bingham whipped a cross in from the left which found Ludlow at the far post but his header was saved well by Toale before the rebound was turned against the post.
Lewis Bingham was involved once more as Ollerton kept up their search for a second. He was played in by Chris Hewitt and after Bingham passed the ball across the area, Sam Dockwray’s sweeping shot went just wide of the target.
Ollerton kept pressing and with around fifteen minutes to go, they scored again as two second half substitutes linked up. Jamie Charlton latched on to a defensive error and his cross found Hewitt who half volleyed past Toale.
Two minutes later, and Ollerton clinched all three points with a third goal. Tom Cooke whipped the ball across the face of goal and Ben Bowring was waiting to hit a first time finish past Toale and into the roof of the net.
With two minutes left on the clock, Lewis Bingham was fouled in the area and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot. Chris Hewitt stepped up but saw his low effort saved well by Toale though it didn’t affect the outcome of the game.
Saturday’s win means Ollerton end the season with the best home form in the division. After drawing and losing their first two home fixtures, the Town have gone on to win twelve successive games at The Lane and that form has played a huge factor in their success this season.
