Three goals in the first five minutes for Phoenix secured them the win.

Ollerton slipped to their second league defeat of the season after a nightmare opening to the game saw them beaten 3-2 away at Phoenix FC.
If it had been a boxing match, the game would have been over after five minutes as three Phoenix goals gave Ollerton a mountain to climb and stunned the Ollerton players, management and fans. The Town did manage to get two goals back in the second half but it wasn’t enough and Phoenix held on for the three points which saw them go top of the Black Dragon North Division.
Manager Dave Winter mad a few changes from Ollerton’s previous outing with Jamie Charlton coming in for the absent Rob Evans, Tom Cooke moving back to right back and Steff Cobb switching across to left full back. Any tactical plan Winter had put in place however was soon out of the window after Ollerton’s dismal start.
Straight from kick off, Phoenix moved the ball forward and James Lawton was given space to finish well past Simon Smith after just 15 seconds. Moments later, and it was 2-0. This time Sam Hadtfield was found on the left and he found the back of the net, striking across goal. Before Ollerton could compose themselves, Phoenix had their third. Steve McDonnell was found with a ball over the top and he beat Smith with a solid finish.
It was a terrible start for Ollerton and as a result, it took some time for them to grow into the game. However, as the half went on, the Town did improve with Sam Stretton and Kyle Ludlow both having half chances from the edge of the area.
The potential turning point in the game came in the second half when Scott McKenna was sent off for Phoenix after a kick out at Jamie Charlton. McKenna took umbrage with what he perceived to be a tackle by Charlton on the Phoenix ‘keeper and after the referee booked Charlton, the linesman signalled the referee over and McKenna received his marching orders.
This spurred Ollerton on even more and they soon got a goal back. The Town worked the ball well to the left of the area and when the ball was played in, Kyle Clarkson was on hand to tap home and give Ollerton a lifeline. Phoenix were soon on the rocks as a minute later, Ollerton got their second. The ball was slipped through to Kyle Ludlow and the Ollerton Man of the Match did brilliantly to dink the ball over the ‘keeper and into the net.
Ollerton still had time on their hands but despite all their pressure, they just couldn’t find a third goal to level it up. Phoenix used every trick in the book to run the clock down and they saw the game out well to give them the win.
