A Lewis Bingham hat-trick helped Ollerton to a 4-0 win over Newark Town

Ollerton Town bounced back from recent disappointment with a fine 4-0 victory over Newark Town on Friday night. As part of the league's initiative to schedule some games for Friday night's, the game was played in front of a large crowd and though the game itself didn't prove to be up to much, some moments of individual quality by Ollerton proved to be the difference.
Before the game, Ollerton Manager Dave Winter and Captain Rob Evans were presented with the February Team of the Month award after they won all four of their games, scoring 32 goals and only leaking 1 in the process. The award has proved to be somewhat of a curse however as since then, Ollerton have lost 4--2 to Blidworth in the League Cup semi-final before last week's 5-1 beating at the hands of Glapwell.
These two results left Ollerton's season on the brink with them realistically needing to win all eight of their remaining games if they are to have any chance of beating Harworth in the race for promotion. They ticked one of those games off on Friday as a Lewis Bingham hat-trick and a brilliant strike by Kyle Clarkson were enough to defeat a resilient Newark side.
Ollerton had the better of the early chances but failed to really test Sam Russell in the Newark goal. Lewis Bingham and Kyle Ludlow all fired wide of the goal whilst Paul Burgess headed over a golden opportunity from a Clarkson freekick.
It took until just before the break for Ollerton to finally break the deadlock. Newark themselves went on the attack and at the far post, Joe Brumpton headed straight at Simon Smith when he probably should have done better. Looking to get his team on the attack straight away, Smith hammered the ball up field and as it bounced inside the Newark area, Russell was unable to keep hold of it and it fell kindly to Bingham who cheekily back-heeled the ball into the back of the net.
That made Dave Winter's half time team talk a little easier and within seventeen seconds of the restart, Ollerton had scored again to all but seal the victory. Straight from kick off, Ollerton charged at their opposition and after Sam Dockwray played a lofted ball over the Newark back line, Bingham got to the ball first and audaciously flicked the ball over the diving body of Russel to double his and his side's tally.
Ollerton brought on Danny Wiltshire as a second half substitute after Kyle Ludlow picked up a knock and Wiltshire thought he had made it 3-0 after firing into the back of the net but the referee disallowed the goal for a hand ball in the build up.
Before too long, Ollerton had their third. Playing the ball well around the edge of the area, Wiltshire dummied the ball for Kyle Clarkson who made space for himself before hitting a brilliant strike past Russell and into the top corner.
As the game approached it's final stages, Ollerton got a fourth as Bingham completed his hat-trick. Danny Wiltshire slipped the ball through for him and Bingham ran onto it before rounding Russell in the area and tapping home his eleventh goal in his past six games.
It was a much needed win for the Town who were somewhat demoralised after the last fortnight. Hopefully the Newark victory can kick start a run of form between now and the end of the season as they look to finish as high as possible in the Central Midlands North Division.
