Ollerton defeated by Blidworth in League Cup semi-final

Ollerton crashed out of the Central Midlands League Challenge Cup on Saturday after a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Blidworth MW.
It was a poor performance by the Town who never came close to replicating the sort of form that had seen them pick up the Team of the Month award for February and Blidworth secured a deserved victory with four goals in the second half.
Ollerton actually took the lead within the first two minutes. After receiving a back pass, Blidworth 'keeper Ryan Hawley failed to get the ball under control and as it bobbled away from him, Lewis Bingham slid in to poke the ball into the back of the net.
Getting an early goal failed to settle Ollerton down and Blidworth were applying most of the early pressure with Ollerton 'keeper Simon Smith doing well to keep Ollerton ahead.
Despite this, Ollerton arguably had the best chances of the first half and could have easily gone into half time with a larger lead. A corner found Lewis Bingham at the far post and he volleyed a good opportunity over the bar before Kyle Ludlow was played through late in the second half and shot straight at Hawley.
It took until around the hour mark for Blidworth to level. Former Ollerton player, Jake Egginton, was given too much space on the edge of the box and his shot took a wicked deflection which beat Smith and found the back of the net.
Four minutes later, and Blidworth took the lead in similar circumstances to their first goal. From just outside the area, Brendan Williams hit a shot which struck an Ollerton defender and rolled past a wrong-footed Smith, and rolled into the bottom corner.
It looked like a certainty that Blidworth would then go on and secure victory but Ollerton fought back and leveled the score. A ball into the Blidworth area wasn't cleared and after Sam Stretton's shot was blocked on the line, Lewis Bingham finally managed to turn the ball over the line for his eighth goal in his last four games.
This goal should have given Ollerton the impetus to go on and claim victory but in truth, it had little affect on the game and Blidworth went on to add two more goals and secure victory. They retook the lead through Keenan Leeds who received a pass off Max Curzon and fired past Smith. Then with the game reaching it's closing stages, Tim Gregory wrapped up the game with Blidworth's fourth.
It was a tough defeat to take for Ollerton who didn't give a true representation of their ability. With them now out of the cup, their focus will be solely on the league starting with next week's game away at Glapwell and they will know that they must improve on Saturday's display if they are to have any chance against the league front-runners.
