Ollerton reach the semi-finals of the CMFL Challenge Cup!

Ollerton Town reached the semi-finals of the Central Midlands League Challenge Cup on Saturday after fine 3-0 victory against Belper United.
After defeating Selston FC in the last round, North Division Ollerton have now beaten the top two teams in the South Division on their way to the final four, keeping clean sheets on both occasions.
The game was delayed for fifteen minutes after one of the linesman failed to arrive, meaning an emergency official was called in.
The disruption didn’t seem to affect the two sides, though it was Belper who started the game brighter and they could have gone ahead in the opening stages. The pacey Sam Vickers got past Tom Cooke down the Ollerton right and after pulling the ball across the goal mouth, no Belper players were on hand to turn the ball home, thankfully for Ollerton.
The rest of the first half was a close fought affair though Belper probably edged it in terms of clear cut chances. The best fell to Chris Saunders who wasted a good opportunity from within the Ollerton area, firing over Simon Smith’s goal.
After the restart, it was Ollerton who came out the stronger. Lewis Bingham pinched the ball off a Belper defender but saw his curling effort tipped round the post by ‘keeper, Scott Whittingham.
The home side came close once again shortly afterwards. From a Cooke throw-in, Kyle Ludlow flicked the ball on and Eddie Bishop just got there before Whittingham but saw his goal bound effort cleared off the line by a recovering defender.
Just after the hour mark, Ollerton had the lead. Jamie Charlton did brilliantly down the right wing, crossing the ball in from the byline for Kyle Ludlow who directed a terrific header past Whittingham for his seventh goal of the season.
The roles were later reversed for Ollerton’s second as Ludlow turned provider for Charlton. A cross into the area was flicked on by Ludlow and it found Charlton who struck a sweet half-volley past the helpess Whittingham to double Ollerton’s advantage.
It had been a terrific second half performance by Dave Winter’s team and they were well worth their lead. A third goal arrived in the final ten minutes of the game through top goalscorer, Kyle Clarkson. Lewis Bingham’s pace and movement proved to be too much for the Belper right back who fouled him in the area, allowing for Clarkson to step up and calmly send Whittingham the wrong way from the spot.
Ollerton will now take on one of Appleby Frodingham, Hucknall Rolls Royce or Blidworth Welfare after reaching the semi finals of the League Cup for the first time since 2006-2007. That season, they reached the final before being beaten 5-3 in the final by Heanor Town. Though any of Ollerton’s three possible opponents will provide tough tests, all four sides will be dreaming of reaching the final and possibly winning some silverware.
