Ollerton will play Clipstone in the next round of the Notts Senior Cup after a 5-0 victory over Newark Town on Saturday

Ollerton Town progressed to the third round of the Notts Senior Cup on Saturday by brushing aside Newark Town thanks to a solid 5-0 victory at The Lane.
It was the perfect remedy for Dave Winter's side who were beaten 5-1 by Askern in their last outing and were looking to get back on track after some impressive form prior to that Askern game. In truth Ollerton always looked the stronger side and once Chris Hewitt fired them ahead after 16 minutes, they always looked likely to seal the win. There was still time for Kyle Clarkson, Craig Stanton, Paul Burgess and Callum Atkinson to add their names to the scoresheet to make the victory more emphatic and Ollerton now can look forward to a home tie v Clipstone FC in the next round of the competition.
The first chance of the game fell in Ollerton's favour. A poor goalkick by Liam Needham in the Newark goal failed to get the distance and the ball fell kindly to Kyle Ludlow who headed it through to Kyle Clarkson but he could only fire just wide of the upright.
Newark came into the game on the back of winning four of their last seven games and they showed a glimpse of that form early on when a cross to the far post found Danny Purves who volleyed a good shot harmlessly wide of Simon Smith's goal.
Ollerton were applying the strongest of the pressure in the opening stages and just after the quarter of an hour mark, they took the lead. Chris Hewitt was given time and space on the edge of the Newark area and he turned before thumping a shot past Needham and into the top of the Newark net.
Newark kept searching for openings and one of their best chances came thanks to former Ollerton player, Craig Roche, whose shot from the edge of the box was dragged wide of the goal.
With half-time approaching, Ollerton doubled their lead. Kyle Clarkson showed why he is currently Ollerton's top goalscorer this season, firing a dipping effort from range past Needham and into the corner of the goal.
Four minutes into the second half, Ollerton scored again to all but seal the victory. Good play by Ollerton down the right led to Tom Cooke sending a cross into the middle which was flicked on by Ludlow to Craig Stanton who chested the ball down and volleyed into the back of the net.
If Newark's task wasn't difficult enough, they were then reduced to ten men as Danny Purves was shown his second yellow of the game for a push on Clarkson.
With an hour on the clock, Ollerton scored a fourth. A Clarkson freekick found Paul Burgess at the far post and he scored his first goal for the club with a headed from a tight angle.
Callum Atkinson was introduced in the second half and he added Ollerton's fifth with around fifteen minutes remaining (pictured). After being played through, he beat his defender before calmly rolling the ball into the corner of the goal.
The only negative from the game from Ollerton's perspective was an injury to Chris Hewitt which meant Ollerton were forced to play the latter stages of the game with ten men after using all of their substitutes.
Newark did clip the top of the bar with a long ranged effort in the dying embers of the game but Ollerton saw out the game to not only secure progression into the next round but also their first cleansheet of the season which will have made the victory even more pleasing for Manager Dave Winter.
